The engine slowed and the doors of the car flew open, a light brown Pacapillar stepping out from the vehicle., He looked rather common for a Pacapillar, with two large floppy ears and cheek nubs that curled into themselves. With a smile on his face, he turned to face the side door of his car. Bouncing out and onto the dirt were three onion creatures known as OhYeses. Their colored ribbons fluttered in the breeze as they stood in front of their Pacapillar friend, Lenti. “Alright, guys, the beach is this way.” Lenti gestured, waving one of his little nubs to the sandy strip of land behind him. The sun made the beach sparkle so much that he didn’t even need to guide the onions to where it was; it was already inviting them in. And before Lenti could even turn around, his companions were already darting off taking foot in the sand, kicking it up behind them with every step.
“Hey! Wait up, guys!” Lenti quickly grabbed the umbrella out from his car and slammed the door behind him taking off after his onions, the warm sand crunched under his nubs with every step. His companions stopped and waited for him to catch up, looking at him with confused looks. “Before you get in the water, we need to set up a spot for us to rest at.” The onions let out an annoyed mumble. “Come on, it’s not going to take that long, and it will be faster with your help.” Lenti placed the umbrella in the stalk limbs of the onion with the Red ribbon. “Red, you can find a place to put that up, I’ll go get the cooler from the car, I’ll be right back.”
It was a quick trip and back to get the cooler from his car; Lenti placed it in the sand with a grunt, wiping his forehead. He placed his backpack onto the sand near the umbrella and dug out a towel; with a quick wave of the cloth, he spread it out flat in the shade. Letting out a sigh, he took a moment to take in the sight of the ocean, before turning his attention back to the onions standing beside him with a grin. “Last one there is a rotten egg!”
Lenti barely finished his sentence before his onions darted off across the sand, skipping along and leaving Lenti in the dust. “I must be using that saying too much,” Lenti thought to himself as he too took off to the ocean. Even though he was lagging behind his speedy plant friends, he had a wide smile on his face. The group got to the water and with a large sploosh they submerged, laughing and playing in the waves.
After they got done playing, the group strolled over to their rest spot and took cover under the umbrella. Lenti laid back on the towel and watched the waves roll back and forth in a rhythmic fashion. He dug around in his cooler to take out a drink, watching his onions run around on the sand. Unlike himself, these OhYeses have so much energy, it’s like they don’t stop when they’re out and about. Now all Lenti wanted to do was rest and close his eyes for a bit, but his rest was ended abruptly to the sudden loud squeaks. Jumping up to his feet wide awake he darted his head around the beach, “What was that? What’s going on?!” His eyes landed on the onion with a yellow ribbon; she ran in a circle with what looked like a sandcastle trailing behind her, it bounced around seeming to be stuck on one of Yellow’s limbs. Confused at what he was seeing, Lenti quickly grabbed his pointer stick from his bag and ran over. His confusion was soon lifted when he saw what he once thought was a sandcastle now with red limbs and two large claws: it was a Crabstle. The crab-like creature’s claw was gripped around one of Yellow’s stalks.
Lenti let out a gasp, and with a quick motion, his pointer stick extended out and he swung it, whipping the sand around the crab to get its attention. Thankfully, it didn’t take much for the creature to change targets and latch onto the stick instead. Yellow ran off to the umbrella and curled herself into a ball beside the base of it, favoring her stalk. Leaving the stick with the crab, Lenti came over to Yellow’s side. She was surrounded by the other two onions who hovered over her, making worried little sounds. Lenti stepped in and examined her limb; while it was pinched and discolored, it thankfully wasn’t cut. Popping open the cooler, he took some ice and wrapped it up in a small cloth from his backpack and placed it on the injury. “This should help it, keep it on for now.” Yellow replied with a low mumbly squeak and sat down on the sand.
Red and Blue, the two other onions, called out, making Lenti turn around. There he saw the Crabstle again; he was approaching, but keeping his distance away from the group. He seemed fixated on them, even leaning over Lenti to take a closer look at Yellow.. “Go on! Get! You’ve caused enough trouble!” Lent shouted and waved his nubs at him. But the crab continued to sit and watch. Without his stick to scare him off, he had to think of something else. He snatched up Yellow in his nubs and rushed away from the umbrella, with his other two onions running beside him. He got up to his car and placed Yellow in the back seat. “That was close.” Lenti panted, his mind now trailing off, thinking about how he’s going to get his stuff with an angry crab out and about. “I’ll go and get my stuff once things calm down; for now, we’ll stay here.”
Letting out a sigh, he stepped back from the side door to close it, only for Red and Blue to start yelling behind him, making him jump. He whipped his head to see the Crabstle had followed them. “How could this crab run so fast??” Lenti thought to himself, staring into the dark eyes of the creature that stood by. Lenti considered his options: “It’s not that big, I could pick it up and toss it away I’m sure…” But the sight of its sharp claws made Lenti hesitate. During their little staring contest, the crab broke his line of sight and looked down to the floor, tapping the tips of his claws together slightly, making small clicking sounds. If Lenti wasn’t mistaken, this crab seemed to be… apologizing? The once stern and cautious expressions started to fade, and the onions glanced over at Lenti giving him a look affirming that his thought was right. With a sigh and a shake of his head, “Alright, we accept your apology.” The crab seemed to perk back up at this. “Now just please leave us alone.” Lenti stated, and the crab slowly left the group leaving them to go on their way back home.
