Peppermint Milk and Frosted Cookie were up late that night, prepping all the food for the bakery tomorrow morning. As the change of seasons were quickly approaching they wanted to experiment with some new recipes they could potentially sell over the upcoming session. Hoping that they could garner hype and gauge their new treats popularity by handing out samples with each order. They felt it was very important for them to actually taste test the new flavors, essentially after the disaster that was the peanut butter Corewarming cookie cake. They spend so much time and Leaflets on that treat, just for it to be a flop amongst customers and make the two sick from trying to eat the extras, so they wouldn't be wasting food.
They were so lost in their work, that the sudden knock on the door almost made Peppermint Milk throw the spearmint dust into the air. Causing Frosted Milk to giggle at her partner’s clumsiness. “Don't worry sugar, I’ll get it for ya. No need to be throwing the dust.” However when Frosted opened the door the sight she saw caused her usual happy demeanor to turn to one of shock and concern. Upon seeing their partner’s expression Peppermint’s curiosity spiked. “What in the peppermint sticks is going on” they wondered while cautiously approaching the door.
None the less, the sight the saw on their cottage's door step was definitely a reason to put one in a state of shock. They had heard the rummers about the strange baskets with Snekket eggs popping up around Crysalopolis, however the two's cottage was practically out in the middle of nowhere. No way would this mysterious benefactor go out of their way to delivery a basket with a Snekket egg to two noteworthily clumsy bakers. At least that's what they had initially thought. Yet here it is.
After what felt like an eternity Frosted broke the silence, “what would you suggest we do with this sugar?” Peppermint frantically uttered back “I’m-I’m not sure. Taking care of our pets is one thing, but a Snekket will be much more adventurous, chaotic and out-going then any of our other companions!” Frosted stretched out a paw to gently touch the egg, “but we don’t even know who left this here and we at the very least shouldn't be leaving it out here in the cold”, she calmly stated while grabbing the basket to bring it inside. “Peppermint sticks, your right,” exclaimed the red and green Paca “I’ll go make a little space for it our sleeping quarters” they said while bolting back into the cottage.
Thus the two bakers decided to wrap up their evening of taste testing and prepping in order to make sure the mysterious Snekket egg would remain safe and sound in their cottage. They found a little space in the corner of their room, that was slightly more insulated then the rest of the house. It was also in perfect view of where the couple liked to slumber, so if the egg began to stir overnight, they would be in earshot of it.
“I think this is the spot” Frosted Cookie whispered ever so silently to Peppermint Milk, that one would think she had forgotten that the egg couldn't hear her. Peppermint nodded their head in agreement “I think we should get the egg out of the basket, last thing we want is it to attempt to hatch just for it plop itself onto the ground.” Frosted shook her head in agreement and begin to pull the contents of the basket on to the floor.
Carefully the two pulled out the glistening purple and blue egg along with a soft blanket for the delicate item to rest upon. They then garnered through the basket to find a Snekket shaped plush and some treats. The first of those items was gently laid next to the egg, with the other being placed in the pantry for future usage.
However, the two looked upon their set-up with a bit of disappointment… It looked kinda barren. Definitely was not as cozy as they had initially hoped. However their were ways they could potentially cozy it up. Peppermint remembered the Snekket and Paca plushie Sachet had gifted them last Boreal Wishes and ran over to the shelf where they displayed their plushy collection. Making the make-shift bed look a bit more complete.
While their little plushy and blanket nest would keep the egg safe and sound through the night, it unfortunately did not help them solve their original problem of what to do with the mysterious egg. Every passing second more questions would cross through Peppermint’s mind, causing them to slowly fall into a blind state of panic. Should they keep it? Should they try to return it to whomever left it on their doorstep? How would they even go about figuring out who was the egg’s original owner and if they figured it out, would they even want the egg returned? They must have left the egg on their cottage doorstep for a reason, especially if they were willing to travel so far just to get here.
“Peppermint Milk!” Frosted excitedly exclaimed causing the anxious Paca to snap out of their trance. “The plushy that was in the basket came from Sachet's Pillow Fort. Maybe Sachet will remember who bought the plush?” With this Peppermint perked right up “we will close the bakery tomorrow morning so we can get to the bottom of this EGG-sterious situation” they said while trying to convince themselves all will be okay. Frosted Cookie laughed at their partner’s little joke. She always loved how Peppermint could find humor in the most ridiculous of situations.
She let out a sudden yawn, becoming acutely aware of her baggy eyes. Checking the clock on the far wall, Cookie was astound by how late it was “Let’s get some sleep sugar, we can worry about this in the morning, when the rest of Crysalopolis awakens.” Timidly Peppermint Milk shock their head in agreement while following their partner to bed. However they couldn't help but glance back at the egg one last time, feeling a shiver of anxiety that they just couldn't see to shake off.
